S.O.T.I.M. Son of the Iron Mic

Picture

A graphic novel takes on the elements of hip hop in a futuristic society...

Beat Street meets Dune.

Son of the Iron Mic is a post apocalyptic tale that represents everyone by using elements of a culture born in the 20th century. As a cautionary tale of how the future treats the past, Michael's coming of age represents the matriculation of hip hop as a culture against a climate of appropriation, an redirection of its core traditions and central narrative. Son of the Iron Mic and its subsequent web series, Tales of the Iron Mic chronicle how changes in the Diaspora can alter the future in dangerous ways.

I have been a fan of mythology, fantasy, science fiction, and comics since my childhood. I also grew up admiring Hip Hop culture, and participating in the culture as well. Son of the Iron Mic is basically a fusion of two life long passions of mine, speculative fiction and Hip Hop culture.

When I started in hip hop there was an unspoken feeling that a war was raging for the very soul of the music. I wanted to create SOTIM as a cautionary tale about respecting the foundations of your culture. A very necessary backbone in dire times.

My interest in SOTIM originates from my own love for the art and also the fact that the story takes place in a post-Apocalyptic future. I enjoy exploring questions like "Where will we go?" and "What will happen to hip hop?"
